Wide angle interior of the Amsterdam Loft church conversion showing original architectural structures — architectural home photography by Flare Department Amsterdam

Video & Photography for Amsterdam Loft

Amsterdam Loft

A historic church in Amsterdam-Zuid, transformed into one of the city’s most extraordinary private residences. The Amsterdam Loft is the work of architect George Witteveen — a collaboration between architectural heritage and contemporary living that resulted in a home unlike any other in the city. For Flare Department, this was architectural home photography and film at its most compelling.

The brief was to capture the spaciousness and unexpected warmth of Jan Arie Dekker’s home — a space where soaring church ceilings meet bespoke modern interiors, and where every detail carries the weight of considered design. Our photographers moved through the space with that duality in mind: the grandeur of the original structure alongside the intimacy of a genuinely lived-in home.

The project was commissioned as the first episode of The Edit — real estate agency Broersma’s inspirational platform, where each episode explores an extraordinary home through the eyes of the person who inhabits it. Alongside the photography, we produced a cinematic film that follows Jan Arie Dekker through the space, capturing not just the architecture but the atmosphere and the story behind it. The combination of still and moving image gave the project a depth that neither medium could have achieved alone.

The property subsequently attracted significant press attention, featured in Quote and Telegraaf, placing the imagery in front of a national audience well beyond the real estate sector.
