X+L Studio
Exploring the artful interiors of X+L Studio through our lens.
Away from the city’s main currents, X+L Studio is the brainchild of Amsterdam-based designers Xander Vervoort and Leon van Boxtel – a creative workshop where interior design and art come together.
Founded in 1996, their studio unfolds like a quiet revelation. An unassuming entrance opens to a space where skylights gently illuminate a world of artistry within. At the rear, a quiet bamboo garden cuts through the city’s noise, evoking a distinctly Japanese aesthetic. In fact, the entire design ethos of the studio draws deeply from Japanese principles.
The studio itself captivates as much as their work. Handmade objects, abstract wall tapestries, sculptural forms, and bespoke furniture fill the space. These creations reflect their philosophy, where imperfection isn’t just accepted but embraced.
For us, this project focused on capturing the subtle poetry of contrasts — from deep shadows to rich textures and unexpected pockets of light. These elements brought the essence of X+L Studio to life, translating their bold creations into equally striking imagery. Each corner of the workshop held unique art pieces, some completed, others still taking shape. Capturing these details felt essential, telling the story of the space and its creative minds. Our interior and art photography was featured in Broersma’s ‘The Edit‘.
