Video & Photography for Kepplerstraat Loft
Kepplerstraat Loft
Once a school, today, this top floor is a private residence that holds onto that history. High timber trusses, large windows, and open spaces speak to what the building once was. Commissioned by interior architecture firm pham, this architectural loft interior photography and film project set out to capture how a contemporary home sits within that heritage, and how the two coexist.
The Photography
Contrast runs through every corner of this loft. Concrete, hot-rolled steel, and Belgian bluestone sit alongside the warmth of birch plywood and restored timber frames. Dark against light, sleek against rugged, stark against soft. The material palette is restrained but full of tension. Bringing that out through photography was central to our approach.
This was the first project we worked on for pham, so we spent a lot of time upfront developing a visual language that is built around their personality. For Kepplerstraat, that meant a look with an analogue feel. Grain applied subtly, light handled with care, and an edit that matches the mood of the space itself. From wide architectural compositions to close-detail shots of interior elements like the quartzite bathroom and the custom birch furniture piece, the photography moves between scale and intimacy the way the space itself does.
The Films
The films mirror the photography in both style and intent. Slow-moving and cinematic, they follow the natural rhythms of the home, capturing features like light playing through the skylight above the bath and water running in the shower. We crafted a hero film alongside shorter segments focused on individual spaces like the bathroom. Wide overviews give way to moody detail moments, with the architectural features of the old school building always present in the frame.
Both productions were a full team effort: from the initial look development through to the final edit, every decision was made in service of the space, working closely with pham.
